My name is Colm Smyth and I was a survivor of the Loughinisland Massacre in 1994  which took place during the USA World Cup. Buy Book Here

I was shot four times. As a survivor of the shooting and with the 20th Anniversary coming up, I have written a short account of what happened in the pub that night as a dairy. I have self-published on Amazon.

The short diary (only 5000 words) is something I wrote many years ago, never feeling I was ready to share my feelings and experiences, until now. I thought that it may form the basis of an article that your readers may find interesting and thought provoking. Providing an insight into the experience of a victim of the troubles. Especially an attack that was linked to the World Cup in America. This April ESPN will be showing a documentary on the Massacre, ESPN 30 for 30 .

The Loughinisland Massacre - What Happened
On the 18 June 1994 fifteen people were in the Heights Bar, Loughinisland, Northern Ireland, watching the Ireland vs Italy world cup soccer match taking place at Giants Stadium in New Jersey. At approximately 10.15pm, members of the Ulster Volunteer Force (UVF), a loyalist paramilitary group, burst into the bar with an assault rifle and pistol and fired repeatedly on the fifteen customers killing six civilians and wounding five.
