Synopsis

Sean South achieved apotheosis on his death in 1957 in an attack on a police station in County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland. Little was known of him during his life, yet Ireland came to a standstill for his burial.This is the story of the man himself and what lead him on a cold New Year's Day to so challenge Britain's rule in Northern Ireland.

Des Fogerty was born in Limerick City and educated at St. Patrick's National School and Jesuit Crescent College. He began his career in the catering industry at The Savoy on Bedford Row, Limerick. He later worked for the Rank Organisation in Dublin and Cork. The 1969 crisis in Northern Ireland found him in the Irish Army, where he served full-time for two years. In 1975 Des went overseas as a trainee engineer with the giant American oil industry service company, Halliburton. He remained on contract basis with the company for over 20 years, working in over seventeen countries. He retired in 2005 from the Army Reserve after 35 years. He and his wife Margaret now live in Clifden, County Galway.
He is currently writing a history book about a cemetery in Dublin.
Des promotes his book lecturing at historical societies and is available for lectures.
